Antique hand painted porcelain brooch

Antique Hand Painted Violets Pin

Most of these precious pieces were once warm gifts from artists to their friends. Many of the artists were women like you and I using patterns that could be purchased or found in the craft publications of the day. The type of flower was meant to convey a particular message--in the case of violets, faithfulness. This is 1 5/8" oval all hand painted painted porcelain showing a deluge of violets and greenery over a glazes of yellow and mint green. A swirl of golden paint frames the edges and appears partially in front on one side. The gilded prong setting is equipped with an open C-clasp. Overall very good condition. Enjoy this violet delight! $58

Pave Diamante doesn't always scan well, but, rest assured, there is no yellow and the rhinestones are still sparkling!

Big Pave Art Deco Brooch

Lovely & Large 1930s Art Deco Pave Crystal Brooch

Sparkling diamante pastes are set within this classic beaded pot metal setting. The setting is openwork and depicts floral arrangements with chatons and baguettes lining the sides in stations. The pot metal is still bright, perhaps silver plated. Though some stones are getting dull with age, the overall look is sparkly, despite the uncooperative scans. This big girl is 3 1/4" wide x 1 1/2" tall. Very Good + condition. These beauties of the 1930s are rapidly disappearing. Buy today for $78.

The  gilded frame blooms with  flowers & foliage alongside art deco tilted squares. This jewel measures 1 5/8" wide x 1 1/4" tall and fastens with an early safety clasp. Very Good condition. $39

Big 1930s Pave Crystal Rhinestone Iris / Orchid Pot Metal Brooch

Made in the art deco era, this 1930s pot metal beauty is what is sometimes known as tropical deco. The wild undulations, while curvy, still have the linear deco arrangement. My heart beats fast every time I see this Book Piece beauty. Featured on page 122 of Warman's Vintage Jewelry, by Leigh Leshner, this incredible design features pave clear crystals set in textured and beaded metal. At 3 1/4" tall x 2 1/2" wide, this example is in especially nice Very Good+ condition, with rhinestones still sparkling and pot metal smooth and without corrosion. Enjoy this desirable, hard to find piece for $85.

Wonderful Antique Etruscan Style Sash Brooch

This unusual beauty is between the categories of bar pin and sash pin. The style is almost modern, with textured golden base and a raised bow shaped platform decorated with granulation and slender line decoration. Two bezel set swirly green glass stones accent the center. The brooch clasps with an open C-clasp. The jewel is 3 1/2" long, 7/8" wide, and would look wonderful by itself pointing to the décolletage, or just under the collar, perhaps with a cameo beneath, or another smaller round or oval pin--that's the way the ladies wore such pins 100 years ago. A lovely late 19th century  brooch, in Excellent condition. $75

Truart Sterling Silver Penguin in Graduation Cap

This chubby little fella has certainly earned that degree, don't you think? He certainly doesn't look like the other kids and doesn't wear the most stylish clothes, but he's knocked himself out to please you. Will you take him home? AT 3 1/8" tall he's larger than usual, but his reputation is sterling. Marked Truart Sterling on a little paint palate in back, this brooch is in Very Good condition, with perfect sterling with the usual spots and crevices of tarnish. Enjoy! $55

Lisner Sparkling Green Rhinestone Stylized Wreath Brooch

Perhaps you've seen the bracelet, earrings and necklace that mate this pretty thing. Geometric beaded openwork rises from the base, forming a 7 pointed star. The different textures of gold tone and the small green rhinestones play with light for a clean, fresh look, for the holidays as well as year around. For an ultra special necklace, double and loop a long string of beads between the pinback and the opening in front and you'll have a glamorous look without the cost. This versatile jewel is 2" in diameter and rises about 1/2" above the pinstem. Signed on the back edge, (c)LISNER. Excellent condition. $36

H. Pomerantz RARE Chrome Modernist Gazelle Brooch

No one else has this graceful pin. I've searched high and low, and am convinced this jewel is a true rarity. This is a 1950's modernist design done wholly in chrome except for the red rhinestone eye. Measurements are
2" wide x  1 1/2" tall, and the brooch is in Very Good condition with some pitting and minor discoloration near the signature plate in back. A wonderful piece! $135

Rare pony brooch

Adorable, Lively Vintage Pony Brooch

Rare. He's doing what ponies love, prancing wild in a flower-strewn meadow of yellow enameled flowers with green leaves and faux pearls. Decked out with rhinestones in him mane and tail, he holds in his teeth a pink enameled jeweled rose for his lady. He deserves to be worn, and it breaks my heart to have to part with him.

At 3 1/4" tall and 2 1/2" at the widest, he's a big boy from the early 1950s, around the time Coro was making their pretty horses. My friends insist this brooch is a lost Coro, but unsigned. He's high quality with good heft, made from thick cast metal finished with golden plating. The near-Excellent condition is remarkable--I could not find any wear in the plating on the front, and on the back, only a bit along the edges. Rhinestones are bright and faux pearls are faultless. You (and I) may never find another like him. $125

Around the edges, one bicone is stacked upon another. About 2" in diameter, this sparkling jewel is marked Japan on the pin assembly. Very good condition, with wear on the back. Enjoy for $32

Sterling Cini Taurus Brooch

Vintage Sterling Silver Taurus the Bull Brooch by Cini

Circa 1960s. From Cini's popular astrology series comes this sterling Taurus the Bull, representing birthdays falling between April 21 and May 21.  The metal work that makes Cini jewelry distinctive can be observed in this brooch, with the rippling scalloped skin of the body to the fantastical shape of a bull with curling tail and ornate stinger like appendage instead of hind legs. This is the larger version measuring 2" x 2; and weighing 17 grams.. Marked STERLING (c)Cini, the brooch has not been polished and is in Excellent condition.  $65

ART signed Oriental Motif Portrait Brooch

This exquisitely designed brooch will suit your most exotic mood, with the look of painted porcelain along with the 1960's style for ethnic jewels. The scenic transfer on white glass shows a man and woman dressed in colorful kimonos, enjoying a Japanese garden surrounded by trees and flowers, with snowy mountains in the background. The glass oval is set within a goldtone bamboo motif frame. This desirable jewel, signed ART(c), is 2" tall x 1 3/4" at the top. Excellent condition. $48

L.S. co Sterling Silver Brooch

Fabulous Sterling Silver L.S. Co. Art Deco Brooch

Not a good picture (there is no green on any of the metal), but still, this brooch is a scarce and wondrous design, back from the times when the art deco linear design lines were evolving into the spare nosegays of retro modern. In most of these old pins, like this one, the prong set stones are unfoiled and absolutely brilliant. In this one, the stones are peridot green. Only the open buds and their stems have vermeil coating; this is deliberate to the design, since gold and silver together in one jewel has been stylish off and on through the years. The brooch is a big one at 3" x 2 7/8". Very Good condition, with bits of tarnish here and there. $68
