This is a very small jewel, intended to add just a touch of traditional, conservative loveliness to any look from lace peignoirs to blue jeans and shirt. Though it seems delicate, it is not, but rather sturdy and well made. The delightful slender golden hand holds a flower made from a small guilloche pink and green rose against a white background Two faux pearls flank for accent. The pin is only 1 3/8" tall and 1" wide, but is in top collectible condition, with no wear on the gold tone finish and the pearls and guilloche intact. Marked ALICE CAVINESS on oval in back. $48

Someone took their time in this highly creative design. The bunch of leaves and flowers offer the streamlined loops and spareness of retro moderne, but still have the linear quality of Art Deco. See how the leaves and and bud stand up nearly straight, then droop in a graceful line. Though one flower is centered with prong set blue and crystal rhinestones, the smaller flowers nest genuine pearls, which are often found in these old sterling brooches by L.S., which stand for Louis Stern.

The stately yet dear jewel is fashioned in thick, heavy sterling and is 4" tall. What a dramatic look for gem colored or black evening wear! The vermeil coating is thinning evenly, and is not markedly worn.The back is marked, in a diamond shaped plaque, L.S. Co 1/20 12K on Sterling. Excellent condition. An heirloom L.S. Coro Beautifully Designed Floral Rhinestone Brooch with the Look of Diamonds!

Circa 1950. Those who love diamonds will love diamante (crystal clear rhinestones), not only for the clean, flirtatious sparkle but also for the price. This wonderful little brooch by Coro offers brilliant crystal rhinestones set with circles of dog-tooth faux prongs in a gunmetal gray setting of  wildly arrayed leaves and twisting branch. This is a quality brooch, quite heavy for it's size. The brooch is about 2" tall, but seems larger due to layered construction rising about 1/2" from pinstem. He's bound to make your day, this bulky but winsome guy with the gemstones in his flames. Made of thick solid sterling, he has a smile on his face, love in his heart, and 925 stamped on his back. I'm not sure of the names of the bezel set gemstones, could be just dyed quartz, but the reddish one I'm certain is a carnelian, and I suspect the pink is rose quartz. Fabulous 1930's Blue Rhinestone Flowered Fan Brooch

This grand old brooch is guaranteed to make you feel like Scarlet O'Hara. The a large, showy piece is gilded pot metal, open and lined with unfoiled sapphire blue glass octagons, prong set openback, alternating with sparkling diamante and separated by blue enamel fleur de lis. This 3 3/8" wide brooch is almost 3" tall as well; that covers a lot of area. Applied flowers enameled in two shades of blue are centered with more clear rhinestones further adorn the fan, as well as a flowing ribbon bow over the handle. Condition is just Very Good, with some wear on the enamel and the gilding, mainly on the twisted edges, adding vintage character to this lovely piece. The blue rectangles are excellent; the small diamante stones still sparkle like the dickens. Be sure to look at the back to see how sturdily this piece is riveted together. Overall, a well made, lovely, extremely scarce old beauty. $95

Big Blue Flower Bud Brooch Signed BSK

If you love vintage florals but appreciate something a little different, this BKS blue beauty is for you. Gold tone filigree leaves hold a large Lucite bud (no seams) with green magenta, and other shades of blue floating inside. Another bud is represented by a faux pearl, and both are accented by pave crystal rhinestones. This 2 1/2" jewel is heavy for it's size, and you'll probably want to reserve it for a sweater or light jacket. Signed (c)BSK in back, the brooch is in Very Good condition. $38

The bare wartime sterling jewelry known as retro modern did not suddenly stop as soon as the WWII. The style continued into the late 1940's and early 1950's, but evolved, now that plump helpings of base metal and plenty of European rhinestones were available again. Here we have a classic example of this evolved style. The exciting two-layer sunburst floral design is centered with a sparkling chaton floret in golden petals, surrounded by spokes of brilliant unfoiled sapphire blue rhinestone baguettes, each set openback with a single prong folded over the top. The metal has some silver content; the finish is gold tone. Notice the classic lattice design in the leaves. This one is a high quality keeper, an obvious designer jewel left unsigned. But the design itself couldn't be more classic for the era. Wild & curvaceous lines combined with elements of Art Deco geometric motifs, the brooch is 2 7/8" tall x 2" wide. Very good condition, with wear to the finish on the prongs and minor wear in back. $58

Here's an finely designed beauty that your Grandmother or Great Grandmother might have had in her jewel box. Each Cala Lily embraces a black round ball as pistel; the stem is flanked with pave crystal rhinestones with a graceful black enameled leaf stalk and black & goldtone leaf. Also, from the same stem grows a golden frond decorated with multicolor rhinestones, so popular during the '30s and early 1940s! This brooch is heavy! Wear it on a coat, jacket, blazer or some other stiff material. Condition is just very good, with brilliant rhinestones and intact enamel, but wear of the gold tone on the prominent petals dipping under the stones on both sides. However this wear is even and just where you would expect it to be, thereby giving the brooch a wonderful vintage look. The brooch is 2 1/2" tall x 2 3/4" wide. $68

Circa 1943. Here's a classic Retro Modern sterling vermeil brooch by Coro. It is a wide, scrolling bow done in thick sterling, heavy for its size, featuring one BIG square unfoiled emerald green glass stone. During the shortages of WWII, American costume jewelers ran out of European stones, and often the result was what I like to call the "one stone wonder." Jewelry houses began to ship unfoiled stones from Brazil, many of them quite large. This one is 3/4" in diameter and about 3/8" thick, prong set in an open backed cup. The brooch is marked STERLING CRAFT by Coro. The brooch measures 2 3/4" wide at the widest point. The brooch measures 2 3/4" wide at the widest point. The gold vermeil coating is intact; the brooch is in Excellent condition. $78

The center stone is recessed for interesting light play. The silvertone setting has an eyelet construction, but the brooch is still heavy for its size. A pendant loop in back allows you to string it on the 16 1/2" light sterling chain that is included. But think of how it would look hanging from a slender strand of crystals.
