Japan painted celluloid floral brooch

Beautiful Old Japan Hand Painted Celluloid Brooch

Circa 1930s or 1940s. From Japan we have this lacy display of red-dotted daisies, olivine green leaves and a pink rose against a deep ivory colored celluloid carving. The colors are delicate and wistful and the carving is fairly deep. This pretty thing measures 2" in diameter and closes with an open C-Clasp. It is stamped in back JAPAN.  Excellent condition.  $36

Scintillating Signed Austria Tiered Blue AB rhinestone Brooch

You have to admire not only the sparkle & flash of Austrian rhinestones but also the construction of their jewelry, both exampled in this radiant piece. Blue Aurora Borealis rhinestone navettes, chatons & teardrops in assorted sizes will dress up that favorite evening outfit. The stones radiate blue, peacock, pinks & purples, all prong set on a dome of rhodium plated wires, tiered one round on another, like a wedding cake. The brooch is  2 3/8" in diameter and rises about 3/4" from the surface. A lovely piece in Very Good condition, with a scratch in the AB finish in the center. Signed Made in Austria on a plaque beneath. Enjoy. $40

H. Pomerantz Aurora Borealis AB Pave Leaf Brooch.

Circa 1955. For sheer vintage sparkle plus collectibility, we offer this fairly well- known H. Pomerantz leaf brooch. The pale goldstone base of the leaf is quite convex, dipping sensuously inward so that the glinting pave AB crystal rhinestones can play off one another's light, glinting mainly a pink and gold blush, but also a rainbow of colors depending on the environment and your movement. The pave chatons are set open back, and you can see that their silver foil is entirely intact; someone took good care of this brooch. AB baguettes line the stem and surround the leaf body. At 2 7/8" long this simple jewel will add a large splash of elegance for evening. Signed H. Pomerantz & Co. N.Y. on a rectangle plate in back. Excellent condition. $58

ART star brooch

Double Star Flowered Filigree Brooch Signed ART

Circa 1960. This unusual stacked jewel is from a line of ART jewelry with little flowers imposed over antique goldtone filigree. This one is a bit harder to find, with one 5 pointed star applied over another, making 10 points, the symbol of woman and her spiritual well being as well as living in harmony with the nature, and love of animals. The filigree, dotted with small green painted flowers and hot pink flowers as well as tiny faux pearls, would look fab with light or neutral colors. The jewel measures 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" and is signed on the back, ART(c). It is in Very Good condition. $35

Late Victorian Oriental Motif Sash Pin

This scarce and uniquely styled sash brooch is just the right gift for the woman who loves the exotic but seems to have everything! Hammered brass plates offer bezel set blue Bohemian glass tilted squares and applied Asian symbols. Oriental motifs were popular from the mid 19th century through the Art Nouveau period, but I think this is an unusual combination. This is a quality brooch, 3 5/8" wide x 2 1/4" tall with a good heft. Excellent condition. $90

Antique Victorian Large Shell Cameo of Dionysius

Circa 1880. This antique shell cameo depicts the Greek God Dionysius, also known to the Romans as Bacchus, the God of wine and fertility. This one is large and nicely carved, with good detail and no cracks or chips. The color of the relief carving is pale ivory on a background of pale carnelian. The cameo and bezel is prong set from the back within a gilded, etched and decorated base metal frame. One of these prongs has been replaced. The C-clasp & tube hinge work perfectly. Dimensions of the brooch in setting, are 2" tall x 1 5/8" wide. There is moderate finish loss on setting in back; it's actually not as glaring as the scan seems to depict. A beautiful antique genuine shell cameo brooch, in Very Good, clean condition. $185.
